Publishing Date : 18/08/2015

Al Eqtisadiah newspaper on 19/6/1428H (4/7/2007G) published a report stating that the Secretary for the Board of Directors of Electricity & Cogeneration Regulatory Authority Mr. Saud Al Yemni conveyed the board's decision after a meeting in Riyadh to approve the code for electric power transmission. Mr. Al Yemni added that great efforts are invested by the Authority in the implementation plans which will result in the restructuring of electricity industry of Saudi Arabia. This will increase investments in electricity sector and encourage competition in production, transmission and distribution with the aim to provide electricity all over the Kingdom at affordable price, with high quality and reliability.

He stressed that the first important step to achieve this goal is to efficiently manage the electric power transmission and network's capacity, taking into consideration the heavy consumer loads during peak periods in summer. The system will work on commercial basis while adhering to international performance criteria to minimize and eliminate any discrimination among the producers. The code also ensures safety and ease of use with well defined duties and responsibilities of operators and users and cooperation among them. Fulfilling network requirements, safety and reliability are the main goals in this code and recently licenses for generation, cogeneration, transmission and distribution were granted to different companies after approval from the Board of Directors according to Mr. Al Yemni.
